The Ohio Aviators won the Buckeye Invitational boys select side tournament Sunday, and North Carolina took the girls final.

The Aviators ran out two teams through the weekend and the younger group, the Red team, was really quite useful and almost beat Celtic Elite on Saturday.

That 8-7 loss meant they played each other in the semis, with the older team, the White team, moving on. Meanwhile, Celtic Elite ran into a bit of a wall on Sunday and lost their semi and their 3rd-4th game. Atlantis put together their best performance in the semis, shutting out Celtic.

In the final, the Aviators White held off Atlantis to win it all. Bliss Archibald was outstanding both days.

"Bliss is very dynamic," said Aviators White Coach Alan Hanson. "He is able to command the attack as a 10 and defend on the outside as a 15. He's got a great boot and where he has improved is with ball in hand. We moved him to 12 in the final and that was a big difference-maker for us."

Tighthead prop and captain Graham Jordan was excellent, leading from the front and working hard to secure good ball for the attackers.

North Carolina beat the Aviators on Day One and backed that up with a final win on Sunday. This was a competitive tournament for the girls and NCYRU did well considering a squad of players is preparing to tour Japan and thus were not available for this tournament in Ohio. The team drew players from all around North Carolina.

When they were clicking they ran their powerful forwards up the middle and made some solid offloads. With a quick and skilled backline as well they were able to finish off movements.
