WWU, Oregon Win in NCRC
Western Washington and Oregon made a couple of serious statements this weekend in the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conferences (NCRC) with each securing lopsided victories.
WWU defeated Oregon State 76-7. Oliver Dougherty scored three tries on the day while Louie Henson and Cam Hazzard added two and Noah Hanks converted 7 out of 12.
Oregon, meanwhile, defeated Washington State 74-18.
That game was relatively close in the first half, but as the Ducks began to settle into an attack that used their forwards to bash up the middle, and retain a disciplined approach, Oregon pulled away.
Head Cach Pate Tuisa said his team still needs to work on some things, but when his team avoided throwing the ball around frivolously, they did well, and the score indicates this.
Sam Grimm, who left behind his regular position of prop to play openside flanker, was all sorts of problems for WSU. Defensively he was a terror and had the Cougars' backs always on the lookout for him.
Ishmael Shabazz was effective as a center and led the try-scoring.
With UW v Gonzaga called off due to a frozen pitch, and Eastern Washington v Boise State has been rescheduled, here is how the NCRC standings look:
