World Rugby and TEG Rugby Live today announced that the HSBC SVNS Series is coming to the New York City area for the first time ever, with the event held March 14-15 2026.

This comes after a long delay during which World Rugby had announced that there would be a USA stop in mid-March, but did not specify where.

Previously, AEG had been promoting the USA stop in SVNS (and was a paid sponsor of GRR). That tournament was held in the Los Angeles area at Dignity Health Sports Park, and ran into some bad luck. Held just before the COVID shutdowns in 2020, the event started strong but didn't get back to existing in its proper sense until 2022. In 2023 the event was moved to earlier in the year and torrential rain, not uncommon in Southern California at that time of year, but attendance suffered.

World Rugby then stepped in to take over all of the SVNS events, before realizing that knowing the local landscape and the local partnerships is also important.

So AEG came back for 2025 but momentum was lost. Then, as the 2025 tournament was coming closer and closer (having been moved to May), the USA men's team was struggling. Expected to play in a bracket to requalify for the main SVNS season, the Eagles, and everyone else, found out just in the weeks before that they would not be playing for that, but for a consolation tournament with no final.

This hit attendance hard, as well.

After that, World Rugby changed their format for the SVNS season, with eight teams in each division (men and women) playing in a series of tournaments, and then joined by the top four of a 2nd division for three tournaments with 12 teams. The USA SVNS event is the last of the six eight-team events.

The USA stop joins Dubai, Cape Town, Singapore, Perth, and Vancouver, before culminating in the Big Apple. New York will provide a fitting backdrop for the final round of the regular season, ahead of the HSBC SVNS World Championships, which takes place in Hong Kong, Valladolid (Spain) and Bordeaux (France).

Because of this, the USA men will not be in the event. There's a very good chance that they will play in some form in New York, but they are not in the eight-team SVNS Series, and are instead competing in another series of tournaments to qualify for those last three World Championship events.

Tickets for HSBC SVNS New York will go on sale on Thursday December 4tfor limited club seats and 2-Day passes, with single day tickets going on sale in January. Fans can register for more information and early ticket sales opportunities at this link: https://usasvns.com/new-york-presale
