The operating agreement between Major League Rugby and World Rugby that funded Anthem Rugby Carolina as a team in MLR has expired.
World Rugby, which is the main funding arm behind the Anthem team, has made no mention of a plan to continue funding the team. This despite a plan to funnel development and HP monies to the USA in advance of the 2031 Rugby World Cup.
According to sources, those employed by the club who don't have a job within USA Rugby are no longer with the club. The players have been informed, apparently, that they are likely going to be free agents.
Anthem has been able to achieve its goal of getting more MLR minutes for for USA-eligible players.
However, a quick look at the .048 winning percentage shows that Anthem won only two matches in 42 games over the three years.
Winning games wasn't necessarily the priority, but a winning percentage under .100 isn't ideal
