Women DII Teams Start Claiming Playoff Places
Who's going to make it to the women's DII college playoffs? Here's a look at some of the conferences and how close they are to finding a champion.
Rugby Northeast
Colby and Bryant are still undefeated and will meet each other this coming weekend. Both are 5-0 and it's a simple case of these two battling it out.
Tri-State
Defending 2018 Fall Champs Vassar beat SUNY-New Paltz 36-5 to make the semis. Emily Howell scored two tries in the game, but this was a young Vassar team. Head Coach Tony Brown fielded his front-line team against Princeton, and they won 44-43 over the Ivy League team with doubles from Emma Manzella and Alexa Mousley.
RPI looked good in beating Stony Brook 29-10 and will face Vassar in the semis. RPI has recruited well and continues to build nicely.
In the other quarters, Marist hammered Hofstra 72-0, with game balls to Jenn Hehn, Bella Sokolik, and Izzy Dick. And Fairfield beat Albany 38-14.
Those four are left in the conference.
Rocky Mountain
Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa are set for a showdown. No. 8 Mary Oglesby scored two tries for Mines in this past weekend's 46-12 win over Colorado College. Scrumhalf Morgan Walls also scored twice. Mesa won via forfeit to move to 4-1. Mines is 5-0. These two teams met in September and Mines won big with Oglesby once again featured heavily on the scoresheet.
But they play again this coming weekend for the conference title.
Northern Lights
Mankato is back atop the Northern Lights after beating North Dakota 83-21 in the semis on Saturday and beating MSU-Moorhead 22-17 in the final.
NEWCRC
Coast Guard, Hartford, and Vermont all finished the regular season 4-1. But Vermont ended up in third thanks to fewer bonus points. Coast Guard beat Hartford 62-27 this past weekend behind 30 points from fullback Hollis Roush. This weekend they meet up again in the conference final.
