The most interesting of the women’s DI college games occurred in the Mason Dixon’s South division. Traditional leaders North Carolina (1-0) and UVA (3-1) spent the majority of the second half within two points on each other, before the Tar Heels broke open a 29-10 win. Read more here.

North Carolina State (1-2) drastically improved its positioning in the Mason Dixon standings, downing East Carolina (0-2) 74-10 on Saturday. Rae Robinson and Lindsay Jones scored two tries apiece, while Lauren Wilson, Sydney Smith, Caitlin Curley (who also kicked seven conversions), Aaliyah Singleton, Elizabeth Cook, Shante Baker, Guste Rubikaite and Kat Roche added a try apiece.

In the South Independent conference, Saturday was a significant day for Life University (1-0), which celebrated its first-ever DI matrix match with a 90-0 win against Florida State (0-2). Head coach Ros Chou has added some talent to the 2015 roster, and newcomer Kaitlyn Broughton (Mufreesboro, Tenn.) scored four tries to lead the squad. Read more about the program’s first league win.

Florida (1-0) didn’t look half bad either. After going undefeated in the fall season, the Gators opened up league play with a 67-10 win over Georgia Tech (0-1).

And that leaves the Pacific Mountain conference’s three divisions. The most interesting game evolved between Arizona State (2-1) and UC Santa Barbara (1-1). The Sun Devils claimed the teams’ first matchup on Jan. 17, 34-18, on the road, so odds were in ASU’s favor for round two. To boot, UCSB was supposed to play the University of Arizona on Saturday before traveling to Phoenix on Sunday, and thus, enter the game a little tender. But rain damage prevented Saturday’s game from taking place, and UC Santa Barbara pooled its energy into a 23-12 victory yesterday, and thrust its name back into the hat of contenders.

Meanwhile, UC San Diego (2-0) kept the division’s only undefeated record intact with a 30-12 win over UCLA (0-1).

In the West division, it was all about gaining some perspective on teams’ relative strength. During week one, UC Davis (1-1) caught everyone’s attention when it fought Stanford (2-0) to a 14-12 loss, while Cal (1-1) downed Chico State (0-2) 35-10. Saturday was going to suggest what type of race lied in store, and the results were convincing.

The Cardinal hosted Chico State and ran away with a 52-0 win. Standouts like prop Chelsey Sveinsson, flyhalf Nikki Richardson and freshman fullback Olivia Bernadel-Huey helped the team rebound from what it considered an uninspired start to the season. Read more about the game, along with photos, here.

UC Davis was equally as successful against Cal. With almost half of the starting line composed of rookies, UC Davis ran out to a 50-10 victory. Paige Steiding, Becca Lehman, Caitlin Reid, Kristin Shum, and Erica Hipp all scored and had great days.

Looks like the game to watch will be on Feb. 21 when the leaders meet again.

Finally, no surprises in PMC North. Washington State (4-2) and Oregon (4-2) both posted shutout wins on Saturday. WSU beat Oregon State (1-3) 67-0, while Oregon won 66-0 over Washington (0-6).
