Westlake Wins Showdown with Dallas Jesuit
Led by an exceptional game by HS All American Bobby Butchofsky, the Westlake Chaps defeated a previously-unbeaten Dallas Jesuit squad 25-5 this past weekend to improve to 3-0 in Texas Rugby’s North Central Division.
“This last week's trainings refocused our energy on controlling the breakdown and having proper support for our runners,” said Westlake Head Coach Jason Spodick. As a result, “our set pieces was much more disciplined and we won nearly all lineouts, offensively and defensively.”
Westlake took a lineout early in the second half and drove the maul 40 meters before Jesuit pulled it down, being penalized for their pains. Westlake tapped quickly and scored. It was a good example of how Westlake was disciplined and patient, but also aggressive.
Butchofsky led the charge on defense and his aggressiveness set the tone for the team.
“He's also really starting to show strong leadership and game management on the field,” said Spodick.
I other action, Round Rock defeated Allen 41-0 to improve to 2-0 and Lake Travis defeated HEB 28-0 to improve to 1-1. That’s not a slouchy 1-1, either for Lake Travis, as their opening loss was razor-thin, 7-5 to Westlake. Lake Travis and Rock Rugby play each other this coming Friday.
In the South Division in Texas, Kingwood defeated The Woodlands to go 2-0, with Cy-Fair also 2-0 after beating St. Pius X.
