Villanova keeps scoring.
Villanova keeps scoring.

Villanova and Scranton are in fairly dominant positions in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference men's D2 after Villanova pulled off a big result this week.

Scranton was idle and, unfortunately, appears to have a forfeit for next week—Lehigh forfeited this week and their match with Scranton is already listed as a forfeit.

The Norsemen have won all of their played games by large margins, led by flyhalf Ryan Wimmer (who is approaching 20 points per game), and try-scoring lock Shawn Royland, part of an effective tight five led by captain and hooker Dan Fox.

Villanova, meanwhile, took down a very tough Salisbury 65-5.

With the victory Villanova is now 5-0 in conference play.

"There wasn’t one standout as the boys played a very uniform level of rugby," said captain Tom Dugan, who added that the 10 tries scored by the Wildcats were scored by nine players.

Defense was just as impressive, with Bobby Fooskas, Jakub Pochron, and Dan Feiner playing srong defense and forcing Salisbury into miscues, and backs such as Cal Smith, Owen O’Keefe, and Rob MacLehose taking advantage to put the Sharks under pressure.

"They put constant pressure on Salisbury’s offensive and defensive structure," said Dugan. "Salisbury has a physical team and played well; they just committed errors in the wrong places at the wrong times."

There's not that much difference between the two leaders (Loyola is the top D2 team in the MARC South at 4-1, but Catholic University, a D3 team, is actually 5-0)—Scranton is 5-0 with an average score of 57-6, and Villanova is 5-0 with an average score of 56-11.

Next up is the MARC"s notoriously fickle playoffs.
