The USA men finished up the SVNS 2 tournament on Day 2 with a loss and a win, and are on top of the SVNS 2 men's standings after Round 1.

Having gone 3-0 on Day 1, the Eagles started Sunday with a loss to Germany.

This was the best showing of the weekend from the Germans, with Cedric Eichholz scoring in the opening minute and dominating the scoreboard through until the final minute. Jack Wendling's try at the end of the game was the USA's only points in the game.

Overall the USA stats still were better than those of their opponents—more offloads, more passes, more carries, and better tackling and turnover stats. Germany lost three turnovers and missed 45% of their tackles (USA's tackle success rate was 85%).

And yet Germany won comfortably. They did so with their four clean breaks, which led to tries, and even with the missed tackles they did well to pin the USA back in their 22 for most of the game.

Kenya held off Uruguay 17-7 and that set up the final round of games. Germany wrapped up their 4-1 run with a 12-7 defeat of Belgium. The Eagles came into their final match at 3-1, facing 4-0 Kenya. And the USA found their form, with Lucas Lacamp adding to his SVNS 2-leading try total.

The Eagles held the 7-0 lead until midway through the second half. Aaron Cummings added to that, and then Adam Channel did the same before Kenya ended the game and the tournament with a try. USA 21 Kenya 7.

Despite the scoreline this was a scrappy, back-and-forth game in many ways.

Now ... we at GRR have to confess that we don't know exactly what this all means. Logically, and how we understood it, this is a straight standings series of tournaments. Everyone plays everyone else, and you track the results.

Based on that, the standings (with points difference) look as follows:
USA 4-1 +72
Kenya 4-1 +49
Germany 4-1 +35
Uruguay 2-3 +5
Belgium 1-4 -99
Canada 0-5 -94

However, World Rugby's own release about this tournament say that Germany won "Gold" because they were 2-0 on Day 2. That doesn't make sense to us because the games on Day 1 were not sharply divided among pools (USA played Belgium, Canada, and Uruguay, but, for example, Belgium played Kenya). And in addition, all of the games were on the schedule from the jump ... therefore Germany's game with the USA wasn't a semifinal or anything like that; it was a pool game.

In fact, the SVNS schedule itself lists the Sunday games as pool games. Because it's a straight round-robin.

So, despite what the official article from World Rugby says

https://www.svns.com/en/news/1042523/argentina-and-germany-take-the-lead-in-hsbc-svns2-race-with-nairobi-wins

We believe that the standings we list above are a reflection of the pecking order.

What the goal is within SVNS 2 is for any team to be in the top four. Then you get to compete in Hong Kong, Valladolid, and Bordeaux to finish the season and qualify for SVNS 1 next year.

Over the course of three tournaments (Nairobi, Montevideo, and Sao Paulo) and 15 games, then, the Eagles would do well to try to be 3-2 or better in the next two events.
