Unfinished Business In Upstate NY Final
The two strongest Upstate NY DII college teams are back facing off for the conference title this coming weekend - to no one's surprise.
This past weekend in the semifinals, #2 seed Geneseo shut out Fredonia 51-0, while Oswego handed Buffalo State a 42-5 defeat.
These two teams played quite the knock-down, drag-out game September 30. Geneseo led by about 20 only to see Oswego come back and win it 49-47.
"Each team would seem like they were going to break away only for the opposing team to retake the momentum and make it close," said Geneseo Coach Stephen Parker. "Coming into the game we knew we had to contain Oswego's scrumhalf as he is an excellent player. He made us pay when we didn't properly tackle."
Geneseo No. 8 Joe Goldbloom was superb in that game.
So on to the second act between these two.
"Biggest thing for our team was using this bye week to get healthy for the rest of playoffs, and hopefully the national tournament as well," " said Parker. "We have been working on defense around rucks to limit pick and goes, and spreading out quickly."
Geneseo has to defend well around the rucks. But Parker said there's also an intangible.
"Oswego had more fire and determination than us at the very end [last time]," he said, :and that's why they beat us on the last play of the game."
