You don't think of Senegal as the location of a major rugby tournament but we've got one.

The USA U18 girls will be kicking off Monday in the Youth Olympic Games. It will be an intense event with the players under some pressure to adjust, and they will need their captains.

We're just super-excited to be there," said co-captain Luisa Moala, who is on the squad with her sister Eseta. Both play for Northside in Utah.

"We've been playing together a long time and the girls on the team all know each other pretty well from camp. This is a great chance for us to play at a high level but I think the important thing is for us to play together as a team."

Co-captain Abbey McGettigan plays at Downingtown and she said it will be an adjustment to playing the USA system, which is different from her club's.

"We use different techniques, especially on defense," said McGettigan. "But we rely on our values as a team, and one of those values is trust. The coaches want us to trust each other and if we trust each other and keep our composure we'll be OK."

Both captains said it's important to keep things light and positive, but it's also important to be committed to the cause.

"As a team we have to put in 100% on the day," McGettigan said. "We've just got to be dogs."

"We have to trust each other, and I think it's important also to stay calm in a tournament where you don't know much about your opponents," added Moala.

The day before the tournament, Moala will be the flagbearer for the USA delegation at the opening ceremonies. There were a couple of candidates for the honor and Moala won the vote of the athletes.

"It's a huge honor," said Moala. "Just being there is exciting, but to carry the flag is even more."
