Too Close to Call Charlotte Catholic vs South Meck
The Carolinas School final will see Charlotte Catholic take on South Meck in a rematch of a 25-24 meeting between the two earlier in the season.
The teams are close to each other geographically as well as competitively. Their results against other teams (21-10 and 15-0 over Myers Park, for example) have been similar. Perhaps the one thing nagging at Charlotte Catholic is that they haven't played a lot of rugby lately due to the weather and forfeits. For South Meck their concern might be size—in the first game against Charlotte Catholic, where they lost by one point, they used all of their forwards subs by halftime.
In the middle of this somewhat is Koen Webb. He played for Charlotte Catholic until the end of last year, and moved to South Meck this year. He will be playing against a bunch of friends in the championship game.
"Both teams have very talented players and top coaching," Webb told Goff Rugby Report. "What makes Catholic so special is their chemistry and how they play their game."
The chemistry is good at South Meck, too, said Webb, but it's different because the program isn't quite as established.
It's a "new chemistry," he said. "Getting a lot of new positions and figuring them out, and how everyone on our team can make a play by themselves, but we all work together to get the ball to the right spot."
