SoCal Playoff Spots Up for Grabs
SoCal Playoff Spots Up for Grabs
Here's where we are in the Southern California Boys school leagues as we come down to the final weeks:
Varsity Red
Who finishes first will likely be decided Saturday as 3-0 Cathedral plays 3-0 La Costa Canyon. The losing team will have to worry about the winner of Torrey Pines and Del Norte.
For example, if Cathedral loses to LCC, then LCC will be 4-0, Cathedral 3-1. And if Torrey Pines beats Del Norte, then Torrey Pines will also be 3-1. If Del Norte beats TP, then Del Norte will be 3-1-1 with LCC left on the schedule.
So it could all be decided this weekend … or not. Most likely, four teams will enter the final two weeks with a shot at playing in the final.
Varsity White
Inland
Dead Rabbits were shocked somewhat by Citrus Valley last week 40-35. It wasn’t the Rabbits’ best game said Coach Steven Lohmeyer, but in the end it matters not as the Rabbits have already clinched the conference.
The win also clinched 2nd place for Citrus Valley. All that’s left is a game between Roosevelt (3rd no matter what but looking to finish 3-3), and Desert Sands.
Both Dead Rabbits and Citrus Valley will be in the playoffs.
Los Angeles
Mira Costa leads with a 5-0 record and their game against St. Monica will be a forfeit, making the Mustangs 6-0 and in 1st place.
So the battles are for the other two playoff spots. St. John Bosco plays the always unpredictable Wilson HS, and a win or a tie should secure 2nd place. So the big game is View Park Prep v. Dana Hills. Both are 3-2. View Park leads because of more bonus points, and so will take 3rd with a tie. Dana Hills needs a victory.
San Diego
Rancho Bernardo plays University City and Coronado this week. Two wins puts them in 1st. More likely? They go 1-1 and take 2nd behind UC.
Alta Vista can secure a playoff position with a tie against winless San Pasqual.
So the playoff picture in Varsity White looks like this:
Clinched - Dead Rabbits, Citrus Valley, Mira Costa, St. John Bosco University City.
As Good as Clinched: Rancho Bernardo (can be eliminated if they lose twice, Mira Mesa wins with a bonus point, and Alta Vista wins)
Still Need to do Something: View Park, Dana Hills, Alta Vista, Mira Mesa
Varsity Blue
As outlined in this article, Valhalla v Point Loma will decide who wins the San Diego conference. Servite finished above Tritons in their two-game series in the OC Conference.
