Rye Logs Impressive Win in New Orleans

Rye and Jesuit NOLA players pose post-match.

Rye HS out of New York logged an impressive road win over the weekend, defeating Jesuit New Orleans 40-17 on a March trip.

The two teams actually played three matches—A side, B side, and freshmen.

""Incredible hospitality from Coach Adam Massey and the Jesuit New Orleans families," said Rye Head Coach James O'Hara. "Top notch."

Rye sophomore Jagger Fenton was named Man of the Match at the post-game ceremony for his strong kicking game both from hand and from the tee. Jagger scored 20 of Rye's 40 points, notching a try, three conversions, and three penalty goals.

Jagger's older brother, Archer, shone at fullback and also scored a try.

His older brother Archer Fenton also scored and was strong at fullback, running the deep three all evening. Hooker Jack Anderson and prop Owen Saya were crucial to Rye's efforts up front.

"Their flyhalf could kick a mile," said Jesuit NOLA Head Coach Adam Massey. "He changed the game. They traveled well."

O'Hara praised Jesuit for their hard-nosed play and how they disruption of lineout ball.

"They are well-coached and tough on defense," added O'Hara. "Jesuit really tested us at the breakdown." Scrumhalf Jona Ory was very good for Jesuit, kicked well and was overall effective in the #9 jersey.

Massey added that he felt his team defended well through much of the game, and when Rye got close to their tryline they actually couldn't score. It was through broken play that Rye got their points.

Next up for Rye is Staples on March 28. Jesuit New Orleans is off to Houston to play HCYA in the Texas-Louisiana Cup.
