Oklahoma Leads Winners in Red River Weekend
Oklahoma remained unbeaten in the Red River Conference with a gritty 31-19 defeat of Texas A&M Saturday.
Also winning in Red River were LSU and Texas Tech.
Oklahoma did well to lead going against the wind, but with the wind at their backs, knocked on the second half kickoff. This gave the Aggies a prime attacking opportunity. which they converted to take a 19-17 lead.
However, the Sooners rebounded, with flyhalf David Wallace directing the attack and No. 8 Robin Persegol getting big meters, and scored two tries to win 31-19.
“We could have played better,” said OU Coach Doug Beubauer. “We had a lot of early-season mistakes. But we’ll take the win.”
OU is now 3-0 in Red River Conference play.
LSU opened up their Red River account with a 52-7 dousing of TCU. This is LSU’s first foray into the conference since leaving the SCRC. Big, powerful No. 8 Todd Dupre scored three tries and center Jeff Mauras scored four in the rout. Prop Christian Brewer, flanker Brennan Falcon, and lock Zachery Stratton all touched down for LSU, but only one of those tries was converted.
TCU’s lone try came from lock Ryan Wallace.
And Texas Tech beat Texas 42-19, led by a player of the game performance from lock Jeff Wyatt.
