The Northern California Varsity Premier regular season wrapped up Saturday with Danville defeating a tenacious Archbishop Riordan 49-26 and Mother Loda defeating Lamorinda.

With the bonus-point victory, Danville takes 1st in the regular season and is the #1 seed going into the semifinals. Jesuit takes second, Granite Bay 3rd, and Solo Falcons 4th. Danville's only loss was an opening-week defeat at the hands (or talons) of the Falcons, who started 4-0. But the Falcons have faltered somewhat near the end of the season, losing convincingly to Granite Bay and Jesuit to finish off the season.

Granite Bay lost to both Jesuit and Danville by razor-thin margins, but beat everyone else fairly comfortably. Meanwhile Mother Loda notched the team's first victory of the Premier season, 35-14 over Lamorinda. Mother Lode may have lost five in a row, but they were competitive in most of their games, and their loss to Riordan was only by a point.

So on to the playoffs. Solo will be on tour and won't participate, and so Riordan, 2-4 but a big, physical, and athletic team with smart coaching, will take on Danville April 9. Jesuit will play Granite Bay in a rematch of a February 20 meeting between the two that Jesuit took 19-17.
