Navy took a Friday-night victory in Provo, Utah, defeating BYU 54-28 behind three tries from Jack Skidmore.

"Scoring 54 points on the road against a good team like BYU after a six-day turnaround is a satisfying result," USNA DOR Gavin Hickie said. "The team has been outstanding over the past 10 days. We faced a couple of challenges and had to pick ourselves up after last week's loss, but this group responded incredibly well. I'm very proud of this team."

Skidmore opened the scoring just before the 10-minute mark and it remained 7-0 through the first quarter if the match. A try from Max Smith, set up by Drew Baublitz made it 12-0 but the Cougars answered through their captain James Tenney.

As halftime approached, as they do, Navy was able to put a bit of a strangelhold on the match with two tries from their powerful center Jake Cornelius. Flyhalf Roanin Krieger, of course, was putting players in space as well as kicking goals and he converted both to make it 26-7 at the stroke of halftime.

Skidmore, who brielfy attended BYU before matriculating to Navy, scored his second right after the halftime break, and Tenney answered with his second of the day.

Skidmore then notched his third before the teams traded tries to round out the match—Trevor Gayron for Navy, Zack Worthington for NYU, Kade Williams for Navy, and Tenney for his third at the end of the match.

This was Navy's final major runout before the playoffs. They will play a club team but really their preparation is set now as they most likely will be the #1 seed out of the East.

Things don't get easier for BYU as they face Saint Mary's in their fourth straight match against highly-ranked opposition.
