Michigan, Michigan State Chase That higher Seed
Michigan, Michigan State Chase That higher Seed
Michigan and Michigan State both won in Big Ten action and that sets up a key clash between the two rivals on Friday.
That's when the two 2-2 teams will meet, with the winner almost certainly joining Illinois in the 3rd-4th game on Finals Day.
Tries from Kyle Spence, Nathan Feldman, and Connor Egan staked Michigan to a 19-7 lead, but Purdue fought back to within a try in the second half.
It wasn't until George Janke's try (and Max Rector's second conversion) that the Wolverines could perhaps relax a little, and then Feldman iced it with his second try. With just a few miutes left Michigan added tries from Brendan Nell and Feldman's third, to finish it off 45-14.
Michigan State, meanwhile, beat Wisconsin, which is the first time they've done that since joining DIA. Jacob Caurdy scored early for a 7-0 lead with Kevin Roche's conversions. Wisconsin tied it up midway through the first half, but a few minutes later prop Lucas Hendershot was over and Mark Kehoe right after that.
Just before halftime the Spartans got a fourth try, this time from Lucas Ring, and led 29-7.
It was a tighter second half but tries from Samy Shelbaya and Gianni Coraci iced it 34-12.
Both teams now sit at 2-2. Whoever wins on Friday will be 3-2. MSU has a game against Purdue that was rescheduled, but it's not been able to play and one wonders if it will be. Michigan, after playing Michigan State, faces off with Indiana.
Indiana is 4-0 and has Purdue and Michigan left and should be in the final. Ohio State (still to play Illinois and Wisconsin) is slated to be 2nd. OSU beat Penn State over the weekend.
