The USA Men’s High Performance Pathway is holding its finally talent ID assembly this week.
Both the Men's and Women's HP Pathway systems have much work to do as USA Rugby looks ahead to the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup, and the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup.
With the USA men not qualifying for the 2023 Men's Rugby World Cup, the focus has to be on developing young players for the next series oc cycles. Of course, with 7s and 15s the cycles roll on top of one another, so this is a big job.
USA Rugby Men’s Pathway Director Brendan Keane and Women’s Pathway Director Martha Daines oversaw a series of Talent ID Camps around the USA and there will be another series of those in 2023.
Keane and the USA Rugby Men’s Pathways brought in 82 players at the U18 and U20 level in Chula Vista this week to focus on assessment and development, with an eye toward next summer’s Junior World Trophy qualification. There is a also a hoped-for (but not confirmed) summer tour for the U18s as well.
Electing for more regional camps and competitions over the summer, the Women’s Pathways will not host an end-of-year camp this December.
