There weren't a lot of games this past week but the games that happened carried with them a significant potential to flip the rankings.
They didn't, mostly.
Small But Intense Weekend Settles Playoff Berth Questions in Men's D2 College
Vermont and Norwich was always going to be a bit of a tossup, and perhaps the surprise was the emphasis UVM put into their win. These two will play again, but right now the Catamounts move up.
Top 2? Not quite.
Benedictine was indeed a breakout team and they broke out big-time with their playoff win over SLU. And with that, John Brown, who beat Benedictine early in the season, moves up too. Benedictine and JBU play for the Gateway championship.
Villanova's drop eight points due to one little loss is a bit harsh, but Scranton's win came from a bit lower in the rankings and it's tough to move all of those teams down to move Scranton up too far. We kind of split the difference, and now it's up to Scranton to finish the job with basically put that earlier loss to Towson aside if they win the MARC final.
If you take a look at the results you'll see that there's a huge different between the Top 10 and 35-40. That's true, but the middle group is much closer to the top group than they have been in the past. This is going to be a good, competitive D2 playoffs.
