MARC D2 Men Join NSCRO
MARC D2 Men Join NSCRO
The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference (MARC) has announced that its Men's D2 conference will join the NSCRO Open Division D2 Competition beginning Fall 2020.
This is an announcement of special interest because the MARC runs several conferences in different divisions. While the other D2 conferences that have joined NSCRO merely had to decide on their own whether to make that move (a difficult enough task to reach consensus), the MARC had been factoring in whether the Men's D1AA conference was also interested, and how that would work.
Initial indications from the MARC were that the leadership wanted every division to deal with the same governing organization. That may still happen, as things are moving quickly in D1AA, but it's also possible that the Men's D2 and the Men's and Women's NSCRO leagues in MARC will be in NSCRO while the D1AA group goes another direction.
The MARC Conference was created in 2012 to operate as a regional collegiate competitive organization for D1AA, D2 and Small College (NSCRO).
MARC administers over 50 College and University rugby programs, and 2,000 student athletes, in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The MARC mission is to administer and promote competitive rugby, player and coach development, player safety, and community service.
\“We are excited about the opportunities provided by NSCRO for our D2 men’s teams, we look forward to the continued relationship first established with our small colleges. We are confident in our decision because NSCRO is dedicated to growing college rugby,” said MARC Commissioner John Gulden.
The MARC currently has 10 D2 team’s men’s teams spread across Pennsylvania and New Jersey:
Bloomsburg University
Drexel University
East Stroudsburg University
Lehigh University
Moravian College
University of Scranton
Shippensburg University
The College of New Jersey
Villanova University
York College
Villanova ended the 2019 fall season ranked #9 by Goff Rugby Report, with Lehigh at #18, Shippensburg at #38, and York at #39.
