Louisville Strong Atop MAC

Louisville remains atop the MAC after another convincing victory this weekend, shutting out Ohio 51-0.

The Cardinals have yet to allow a try in conference play this season, having given up just three penalty goals while scoring 196 points in three games.

Several newer players got some time against Ohio and the defensive effort was still impressive.

"This was a decent challenge as they wanted to come out and play a physical game, but the younger guys stepped up big time," said Louisville Head Coach Emil Walton.

Ohio put Louisville under some pressure early on and Louisville did well to absorb it and get out of it. As Walton said, "the younger guys were finding their feet. Hats off to the OU guys for battling all the way to the end. I saw the O'Keefe brothers play at the MAC 7s Tournament this past April and was impressed with them then and knew they would have a great game this weekend and they did. Looking forward to seeing them develop."

Freshman JB Meier scored twice and broke through for a few runs. Carson Green, a transfer from Queens, ran the attack nicely. Sophomore hooker Liam Flynn is developing nicely into that role.

Meier, in fact, is leading the conference in points with four tries, 10 conversions, and a penalty for 43 in three games.

Bowling Green beat Western Michigan to remain 3-0. We have more details here: Bowling Green Wins Rivalry Clash With WMU

Cincinnati is now 2-1 after a close win over Dayton. We still haven't seen a lot of IUPUI, but the Jaguars could still move up in the standings.

Meier also leads the conference in tries with four but is tied with four other players: Merrick Gruelich (UC), Devon Roosna (Louisville), Phil Tracey (Bowling Green), and Liam Johnson (Louisville).
