Los Alamitos Stays Atop in SoCal
Los Alamitos remains undefeated in Southern California after defeating San Clemente over the weekend.
Los Al moved to 4-0 in the Multi-School Varsity league, just ahead of Carlsbad and Long Beach Poly.
Coach Dylan Ramirez's team is young but talented. Freshman Manoah Faupusa is very difficult to handle in the midfield. He had multiple line breaks, but perhaps his true value came when he was tackled, as it took several San Clemente players to stop him and that led to space elsewhere.
Among those that relished the space out wide was Max Amasio, and he was able to fend off any tacklers who go close and made several breaks himself.
With freshman Lenny Ibarra distributing well from scrumhalf and seeing space well, Los Al ran out 51-12 winners. Ibarra himself would score on an intercepted. Freshman Jordan Lauago also played well, showcasing defense, using his tackling technique and speed to shut down San Clemente out wide. Lauago was also a threat to break off a big run.
Also in SoCal, Long Beach Poly punished a penalty-riddled Carlsbad team to the tune of 31-12. LB Poly runs hard and quick-tapped repeatedly as the Thunder were pinged for 35 penalties. With a good kicking game and plenty of aggression LB Poly won well.
Carlsbad needs to fix some things and Head Coach Josh Williams said his side needs to be more creative when they have scoring chances. A young team that is still finding its feet, Carlsbad is now at 3-1 and so is Long Beach Poly, and Poly ahead thanks to bonus points.
