The Washington Loggers sport nine players from state champion and national high school runner-up Kent, while five other clubs bolster the 21-player roster. Parisa Asgharzadeh, who is fresh off of the Seattle Saracens’ DI club championship victory, is head coach and takes the all-star team to the Northwest Regional Cup Tournament (RCT) in Portland, Ore., this weekend.

The Loggers have the experience of Emily Prentice, Leah Ingold, and Joanna Moreira, who spent a week at James Madison University for the National All-Star Competition along with 200 of the country’s best athletes. Kassandra Reynolds, Megan Dupree, and Emmy Link – they all bring a poise and maturity that comes with consecutive appearances at high school nationals.

Asgharzadeh is equally excited about the 12 players who hail from Budd Bay (5), Rainier (3), Wenatchee (2), Shelton, and Chuckanut. In the forwards, the coach singled out senior prop Hannah Lewendowski and Chuckanut’s Daja Curtis, a very strong lock. The backs will be sparked by Rainier outside center Alaina Valenciano, “a soccer transfer athlete who rocks it,” according to the coach, and the Budd Bay pair of Isabel Boettcher and Ryann Anderson at center and wing, respectively.

The Northwest RCT will see host Oregon Red Hawks, Hawaii, and Montana also compete for top honors. The tournament hosts a JV division as well, so technically, there should be no sophomores or freshmen on the varsity squads.
