LA Invitational is Back, With Some Key Features
LA Invitational is Back, With Some Key Features
The End of Summer Bash is what they're calling the LA Invitational this year, and, as is true of everything else connected with the Sevens World Series events, COVID has had its influence.
Everything is different because the LA Sevens was moved from March to August 27-28, and that means the LA Invitational is being held only during the days of the World Series competition, and being scheduled and organized in a way so players can see the World Series games as well.

All Divisions Open
All of the divisions at the LA Invitational End of Summer 7s Bash are open for teams. That would be:
U8 Flag
U10 and U12 Coed
U14-U18 Boys and U14-U18 Girls. The U18s could well be split between Elite and Open
College Men and Collegiate Women
Men's Open and Elite, and Women's Open and Elite
Beach Rugby Men, Women, and Coed
Men's and Women's Teams Moving Quickly
While all of the brackets are open, it's no surprise that the Men's and Women's senior teams have been the quickest to sign up. This includes teams from Canada, Cayman Islands, and both coasts. There's at least one team from Europe expected to compete, as well. Several of these teams are national development teams.
Beach Rugby is back and will be the one competition that will be held before the competition weekend, as it will help kick off the party atmosphere of the entire event.
In-n-Out
It's not just a delicious burger.
All of the LAI games this time around will be at the Dignity Health Sports Park complex (except for the Beach Rugby). Players at the LAI will get discounted tickets for the LA Sevens World Series event, and players and fans who have tickets for the stadium event who want to watch the LAI games will be able to do so and get back into the stadium.
"It's great because you can play a game in the morning, drop your kit bag off in your team van, and go in to see the World Series games before getting to your next game," explained Steve Albrecht, LAI Director.
Fans and players will be able to participate in the Festival, which will be set up at Legends Plaza (see photo).
Sunday's schedule will also be put together so that LAI fans and players will be able to see the climax of the LA Sevens.
So the idea is to make it easy to play in and watch the LAI and also watch the LA Sevens international event.
But this is also a reminder that the LAI is open for all players.
