Herriman Wins Utah Boys Fall 7s
Herriman Wins Utah Boys Fall 7s
Herriman Gold defeated a determined Portneuf All Valley out of Idaho and a tough United team to win the 2015 Fall Utah Youth Rugby Boys HS 7s championship.
Herriman secured their Tournament Cup Final place with a 29-14 win over Portneuf. Herriman met United for the third consecutive time in the Tournament Cup Final and for the third consecutive time Herriman found themselves trailing United with just minutes left in the match. And once again Herriman dashedUnited hopes with a late try, winning their 4th tournament final 24-19.
That was just icing on the cake as Herriman's perfect record in the preceding tournaments meant they just needed to get by Herriman Blue in the quarterfinals to secure the state championship. They did that to the tune of 36-0. United took 2nd in the series the Series runners-up despite a poor showing in Leg 1, where they finished 5th. With solid performances in legs 2-4, making the cup final each time and almost beating Herriman each time, United secured the silver medal.
Portneuf All Valley and Wasatch of Murray were right in the mix, also. They ended the fall tied in series points with 64 each. Portneuf won third place with a superior total points difference (+28 for Portneauf and +15 for Wasatch).
The Utah Youth Rugby High School Fall 7s Series was held over four tournaments on September 19, September 26, October 24 and October 31. Each tournament comprised of seeded pool play matches followed by playoffs, with teams competing for series points. Tournament cup wins secured teams the maximum number of series points available for the tournament. The lower teams finished in each tournament, the fewer the number of series points earned. Teams tied with series points were separated by the teams’ aggregate points difference.
