Herriman Collects Hardware in Montana

Herriman took top honors in the Montana Invitational after winning four games over the weekend.

"This was a really well-run tournament and I hope they keep having it," said Herriman Head Coach Jeff Wilson.

The Utah sides split their squad for Day One, making sure everyone got a full game of rugby on the day. The Mustangs beat Montana teams Gallatin (53-7) and Missoula (43-7).

Meanwhile, Kahuku out of Hawai'i logged wins over Gallatin and the Liberty Patriots out of Washington.

Liberty tied Missoula.

On Sunday, Kahuku logged a win over Missoula while Liberty beat Gallatin 35-7 to go to 1-1-1.

This set up Kahuku vs Herriman, and in this one the Mustangs identified the game as their toughest match. Wilson ran out a trong 15 against the Red Raiders and Herriman took that game 45-7.

In the final match of the day, Herriman beat Liberty 33-10 to finish up 4-0. Kahukua was 3-1, Liberty 1-2-1, and Missoula beat Gallatin to wrap up a 1-2-1 weekend.

"It was a great weekend for us," said Wilson. "We got to test our depth, and in fact we had a freshman score in every game. This was a good test of what it's like at HS Nationals. I can honestly say I am proud of the performance of every player."

MacRae Parker was named the MVP of the tournament and Ryker Sydall was named MVP of the final match.

For Herriman, this was a crucial preparation game for HS Nationals. They will be scrimmaging against their alumni (including several players who play in college or professionally) for the remained of their pre-HSNC prep. But this competition was important.

In the Premier Bracket in Montana, CenCal out of California beat Missoula, Helena, and, in the final, Washington state's Schoolhouse 31-19.
