Herriman Beats Highland, But It Costs
Herriman defeated Highland 31-14 on Friday night at Herriman High School in a high-level clash of Utah teams.
Herriman jumped out to an early 14-0 lead with tries from brothers Strider and Payton Fountaine. Highland came back to even the score at 14-14 at halftime, as Herriman struggled to overcome a serious injury to captain Jake Barker. The injury is bad news for Herriman, but the team rebounded in the second half, shutting out Highland and getting strong play from Ammon Sagala, Alec Perschon, Si'i Fifita, and Jackson Hammer.
With the win, Herriman clinched the league title and #1 seed in the Utah playoffs and now prepares for a friendly with United before taking on national competition. Herriman is touring Northern California and will visit Jesuit on April 15, then travel to Danville on April 18. After returning home, they play host to Xavier(NY) on April 26 at the University of Utah.
" We've been hit hard by the injury bug," said Herriman Head Coach jeff Wilson. "We head in to tour with four of our top players out for anywhere from four weeks to the remainder of the season, so it will be a tall order taking on the excellent programs we are facing. But we have some good young players who we feel confident will step up and do a great job, and the next three weeks will give us a great chance to see who can play in those high level games and allow us to develop some seasoned depth that will be much needed for State and National playoffs, especially if we are able to get a couple of our injured boys back."
