Southern California dominated in the opening day of the Great Northwest Challenge Girls Varsity bracket.
The Griffins shut out Rhinos Training Academy and Montana in their pool games. In the other pool, Northern California ended the day 2-0, but it wasn't easy, as Rugby Oregon pushed them to the limit and, to a lesser extent, the Washington Loggers were tough.
SoCal and NorCal look in good shape for Sunday's knockout rounds, but Oregon could certainly push for a place in the final.
