The Woodlands girls teams ran through the first day of the Texas Girls HS 7s league, with both teams going 3-0.
This was the first competitive weekend for the Texas Girls HS 7s league, and the event was held in Alvin, Texas and hosted by the Brazoria Spartans. Woodlands fielded two teams, Green and Gold, with both teams are made up of primarily freshman and sophomores with a variety of experience.
The first match of the day was Woodlands Green vs the Spartans. The Woodlands started off rough, making good individual plays but failing to flow as a team in defense and on attack. However, the halfback combination of Carys Phillips and Ellie Kratt did well to provide some leadership as the Woodlands team came back to win.
The Gold side took the field against Rock Rugby. In a a competitive and hard-hitting game Woodlands benefited from some solid decision-making from returning sophomore scrumhalf Olivia “OJ” Johnson and junior flyhalf Emily Duncan. Sophomore prop Fiona Morgan ran well and she combined with senior center Kiara “KK” Kendall and sophomore prop Taliilani “Tali” Margraff to provide a good defensive front.
