Georgetown Looks to Chase in Capital
There’s still plenty of rugby to play for in the Capital Men’s DII College Conference, after a somewhat slow week 1.
Only two league games were played last week, with Towson putting triple digits on Johns Hopkins despite running out the subs as early as possible. Georgetown won their league opener, beating George Mason 58-7. And while Towson and Salisbury are rightly recognized as the top dogs in this conference, the Hoyas of Georgetown are coming on strong.
“I felt we did well after only starting practice on September 1st,” said Georgetown Head Coach Scott Zavrel. “We have 12 returning starters with only four seniors contributing to our A side.”
Senior Zach Rego scored five tries for Georgetown in that game, while sophomores Stephen Tigani and Charlie Sullivan look like key cogs in the Georgetown wheel.
Zavrel said he thinks his team can, with hard work, match the physicality of Salisbury and Towson.
“After our meetings and playing each club close in the last two years, these guys know what to expect and plan to play each of them tough for the full 80 minutes. I would not be surprised if we finished no worse than second in our conference this year, but that all depends on if we can stay healthy and keep our composure throughout the semester.”
We will have to wait until October 3 for Georgetown to meet one of those teams - they host Towson then.
Here are this weekend’s Capital games.
