Grand Canyon University rebounded from a lopsided loss to Cal earlier this week with an impressive 55-5 defeat of Utah Saturday.

Cal, for their part, had been coming off a close game with Arizona and were loaded for bear (unsurprisingly) in the follow-up two days later. Similarly, the GCU 'Lopes were unhappy with their performance against the Cal Bears and took it out on the visiting Utes.

Grand Canyon boasts some impressive outside back and those players got going early—wing Lewis Case sped over at five minutes and he would add another later in the first half. By that time center Lackland Jackson and hooker Daniel Callahan had also scored.

Marcus Terzoli ended up with 16 points on two second-half tries and three conversions.

"I think Cal were a bit upset at giving Arizona over 15 extra possessions and missing that many tackles, so we knew they would respond as champions normally do," said GCU Head Coach Sean O'Leary about his team's effort on Monday. "We didn’t match their intensity and accuracy in the first half. After an honest chat at halftime we had a much more physical approach and we saw that rewarded in second half…"

That, said O'Leary, was a huge lesson for GCU.

"We brought that same intensity against Utah," he said.

This also allowed GCU to get more time for younger players as O'Leary works to develop his team's depth.

But now this is yet another solid showing for Grand Canyon. The 'Lopes are now 6-4 with victories over Colorado, San Diego, Arizona State, Trinity Western, UCLA, and Utah. They have lost to BYU, Saint Mary's, Cal, and Colorado State.
