Gamebreakers from a Wild Weekend
Gamebreakers from a Wild Weekend
As we said last week, the past weekend was a time for games with ramifications for Nationals seedings, but it was more than that, with state leagues coming to a climax and teams making comebacks.
Here's who performed well this week:
Bobby Voth, St. Ignatius
A skilled flyhalf who can kick, pass, run, and tackle, Voth kept the tempo of the St. Ignatius attack flowing, controlled field position nicely, mkicked four conversions, and scored a momentum-shifting try in the Wildcats' 38-26 defeat of Gonzaga.
Ash Mallach, Pelham, HS
The attacking leader for Pelham he led his team to two major victories the last two weeks that essentially sealed the MetNY league for Pelham.
Tate Nelson, San Diego Mustangs
Nelson showcased some attacking flair and opened the game up from fullback to help defeat Back Bay.
Vince Jacoby, Kansas City Jr. Blues
A defensive standout at fullback made some key try-saving, open-field tackles in a tight win over SLUH.
Eduan van Heerden, Charlotte Tigers
The Tigers slammed the Florida Jaguares and Jacksonville Wolverines and van Heerden was in the middle of it all, bashing into rucks, making tackles, and eating up ground with ball in hand.
Brendan Regan, De La Salle
An aggressive and hardworking flanker Regan was a tackling monster against Bellarmine.
Joe Fabini, Bishop Dwenger
Fabini scored both tries in Boshop Dwenger's 14-7 win over Brownsburg.
Owen Clarke and George Engels, Staples
Staples defeated Xavier last week and the second row pair of Clarke and Engels led the effort with the tough work in tight.
Julius Engelen, Greenwich
A flanker for Greenwich, Engelen scored three tries in the Cardinals' victory over Simsbury.
Kenny Passion, Colorado Springs Falcons
Passion scored two tries and played an overall strong game in a 24-12 over East HS.
Abe Kamara, Palmer
Kamara directed the attack in a snappy win over Monarch.
Spencer Domogalik, Avon
IN the Indiana playoffs the Avon prop was a rock up front and stepped in as captain and took the leadership mantle nicely also.
Andrew Baker, Vienna
In a win over Richmond the No. 8 was very difficult to tackle, scored two tries, and was an overall offensive threat.
David Dody, Regis Jesuit
Dody was very effective in a Wednesday night clash with Palmer, slicing through the centers to score two tries and set up a few more.
