Gamebreakers in HS Rugby This Week
Gamebreakers in HS Rugby This Week
We're happy to see more rugby being played around the country, and even happier that additional leagues will kick off in the coming weeks.
So our Gamebreakers are coming from more and more states too. Here's a look at some of the best Boys HS performers from around the country:
Julius Tikuisuva, West Valley Warriors
In a win over Mountain Ridge, the hard-hitting center scored three tries for West Valley.
Aaron Kervin, Cardinal Gibbons
Playing flanker for Gibbons in the Florida playoff win over Okapi, Kervin covered the ground nicely and was a massive defensive presence. He stole ball and got work done all day and was named the player of the game.
Brandon Bourg, Brother Martin
Brother Martin won a tight 14-7 result over New Orleans Jesuit and Bourg was in the middle of it all, winning ball in the lineout, making ground with ball in hand, and delivering crunching tackles. The loose forward was a massive reason for his team's win, but unfortunately in this game he also suffered a torn ACL that put him out for the rest of the season. He was brilliant on the day, especially working within the backline as a running option and a secondary distributor. Sad to see his season end early.
Jason Trevino, Charlotte Tigers
The biggest game of the weekend for Charlotte was against Aspetuck, and Trevino was huge in that one, scoring three tries and playing some excellent defense.
Cade Larsen, Capital HS
Capital HS remains undefeated in Idaho and Larsen has helped them along with that as Capital beat Rigby 41-0. Larsen scored three tries in the first half alone, and at flyhalf continued to lead an attack that has everyone in Idaho worried.
Strider Fountaine, Herriman
Herriman defeated rivals United in a midweek clash and Fountaine was the sparkplug, energizing the attack from the scrumhalf position and pushing the tempo. His passing defense, and attacking flair are all strong.
David Guhl, Royal Irish
The tighthead prop and captain of Royal Irish, Guhl set the tone up front in a battle of a game against St. Ignatius. His calm approach was hugely important to the team and he was a bull in setting the platform for a Royal Irish victory.
Matt Doyle, Bixby
The captain for Bixby, Doyle capped off a powerful weekend in a tourney in Tennessee but scoring the game-winning try against Germantown.
Cooper Isaacson, Denver
Isaacson leads all players in Iowa’s 1A Class with 18 tackles in four games. Only one other player has even half as many.
Alex Clarke, Woodlands
The Woodlands flyhalf scored 31 points all on his own against St. Piu X, scoring three tries and eight conversions.
Dayen Joyce, SoCal Crusaders
A dangerous attacker for the touring Crusaders, Joyce sparked his side to a victory over The Woodlands in Houston.
Doug Leung-Choi, Snow Canyon
Playing smartly as a passer, defender, and runner, Leung-Choi also scored two tries and For his two tries and was named player of the game in Snow Canyon's 38-36 defeat of Salt Lake Valley.
Alex Triantos, Dallas Jesuit
The Dallas Jesuit loosehead prop was a monster up front for the Rangers, scoring two tries and playing dominant defense as his team beat Plano 31-14.
Watts McBride, Cedar Rapids Washington
McBride has scored six tries in four games, all victories, as GR Washington sits with Fort Dodge stop the Iowa 2A standings.
