Gamebreakers - HS Boys This Week
It’s been a couple of weeks since we ran a Gamebreakers feature, so we go back a couple of weeks with our recognition of top players in Boys HS Rugby.
Beau Goudreau
The Chargers (Wisc.) center scored three tries for in a 32-19 win over Grafton, and in fact a couple of weeks before recorded another hat trick.
Chadi Abdalla
The hard-charging No 8 was a big part of Fort Hunt’s impressive semifinal win in Virginia.
Gaelen Kelly
The St. Joseph’s center was a defensive leader and also scored two tries for St. Joseph’s prep in their Rugby Pa semifinal win over La Salle.
Noah Peterson
The BC High School hooker scored and played well throughout the field as BC High finished the regular season ranked #1 in Massachusetts.
Jack White
An intriguing player in that he is a defensive leader as a flanker, but is also the team goalkicker, White helped lead Charlotte Catholic to the North Carolina state single-school title. White takes all of his kicks as a drop kick.
Malcolm Easley
The Ravenwood wing was the MVP of the Tennessee state championship playoffs, scoring and helping shut down the vaunted Harpeth Harlequins attack.
Mason Tasset
The Kansas City Jr. Blues flanker was the MVP of the Missouri state playoffs.
Luke PersanisThe Pelham halfback set up five tries in a 57-31 win over Play Rugby USA, and also scored a try, while his kicking put PRUSA under pressure all day. |
Austin Muss
The Georgetown Prep center scored a crucial try to ensure Prep won their tight MAVRC semifinal over Good Counsel.
Keanu Andrade
The spark plug Danville scrumhalf was named the tournament MVP of the Pacific Cup, leading the Oaks to the championship.
Mike Shincovich
The big Gonzaga lock continues to be at the center of Gonzaga’s efforts and was a huge presence on offense, defense, and in the lineout at Gonzaga won the MAVRC title over Georgetown Prep.
Charlie van Vliet
The Wando scrumhalf was at the center of his team’s offensive efforts in the South Carolina state final against South greenville, helped set up the try that put his side within a point, and then won the game with a touchline conversion with no time left.
Lawrence Bridges
The Chapel Hill flyhalf moved from scrumhalf earlier in the season and was the MVP of the state final win over Union County. Bridges showcased some snappy reading of the game, good passing, and some excellent kicking from the hand.
Sam Golla
The East HS (Colo.) No. 8 was a try-scoring terror in East’s big semifinal win over Colorado Springs.
David Ainuu
Bug players come up big in big games, and prop Ainuu did exactly that in a Rugby Washington semifinal that ended 18-18 at full time. Ainuu’s Liberty team ended up winners due to scoring more tries than Chuckanut, and Ainuu scored one of them.
Brian Stella
The Doylestown center was effective in running through tacklers and also in making tackles as he helped Doylestown win Rugby Pa’s club championship.
Brigham Duecker
The Conestoga scrumhalf’s passing and playmaking was central to his team’s Rugby Pa single-school win.
Daniel Ramirez
The 7s prop led Southeast Polk to another undefeated season and a state championship in Iowa.
Patrick French
In a losing cause, Coast Dragons scrumhalf Patrick French showed once again why he is one of the most highly-regarded scrumhalves in the country.
Leki Fotu
A powerful runner and tackler, Fotu was at the center of Herriman’s big win over East HS in the Utah single-school semis.
Charles Martel
The Maryland Exiles No. 8 Charles Martel scored two tries in his team’s 19-0 Maryland state win over West Carroll.
Kody Walker
An impressive athlete and leader, Walker’s running and attacking acumen set up all three of Mountain View’s tries in the Rugby Idaho state final.
Griffin Maat
The St. Thomas flanker finished off a solid season for the Texas team with three tries and several massive hits in a Senior Night win over Lamar.
