Fresno State In Control in Pacific Western Conference
Fresno State continued its stranglehold on the Pacific Western Conference with a very convincing 52-12 defeat of previously unbeaten UC Santa Cruz.
The spark continues to be flyhalf Isaia Kruse, who scored a try and kicked four conversions, but more importantly continued to set up his teammates for scores. Outside center scored the first try and the last try of the day, and added two conversions for 14 points. Wing Joshua Jacobson has been outstanding as a finisher and scored two tries. He leads the conference with 10 tries.
"Joshua Jacobson is a fearless player on offense and defense and is blessed with power, pace and is a clinical finisher," said Head Coach Patrick Quan. The Bulldogs also got tries from wing Nathan Eldridge, fullback Isaiah Hunter, scrumhalf Seth Olveram and prop Carlos Banuelos.
Fresno State is now 4-0 and clearly in front of the rest of the pack in the Pac West. UCSC drops to 3-1 and will have a key game against Chico State next week. The Banana Slugs scored one try in each half, with wing Mario Sanchez and prop Iloilo Amataga touching down, and center Tiego Logan kicking the conversions.
