More state finals are on the slate for this weekend.

Xaverian Brothers got by Belmont HS 38-17 to book their spot in the Massachusetts IAA D1 final. These two teams had met back in early April, a game that ended in a 17-17 tie. In the semifinal Luke Bell scored two tries while Christopher Dalton, William Benting, Joseph Karbelis, and Ben Kramer all touched down as well.

BC High, meanwhile, won comfortably over Weymouth (the 2024 D2 winners). So that sets up the final between teams that were a point apart earlier in the season. On April 30, BC High edged Xaverian 36-35.

"Certainly we’re excited to be back in the finals," said BC High Head Coach Paul Carty. "We talk about how special it is to make it to the last match of the year, and to never take it for granted. Xaverian will be a challenge, they are well coached, great athletes, and exceptional rugby players. They are certainly as athletic and talented as any team we’ve played this year. Add to that the familiarity from rugby and football, and it makes for an exciting game."

In Minnesota, Minnetonka produced an excellent defensive performance against a high-scoring Edina side to win 19-14 and advance to the final.

It was somewhat higher-scoring in the other semifinal, with the Freeborn Eagles out of Albert Lea beating Hopkins 50-43. The Eagles got two tries from Dylan Groess and two also from Luis Chavez to lead their efforts.

In New York, Xavier won comfortably over Corning to make the final. There they will take on Fordham Prep, who battled to a 22-5 win over McQuaid Jesuit last weekend behind two tries from Tyler Fujtech.

Xavier faced Fordham Prep in March, with the Knights taking away a 48-7 win. It would be no surprise if this meeting was a lot closer.

Fairfield Prep plays Greenwich in the Connecticut final after two close semis. Details here: Both Connecticut Semis Down to the Wire

Detroit Central Catholic, with Will Reed speeding through defenses, held off Rockford 31-19 to win last week's semifinals. It was a multi-game weekend with teams playing quarterfinals as well. DCC won that one 81-5.

In the other bracket, West Ottawa and Loyola HS of Detroit tied 31-31 and went to kicks—not the best way to end a game, but there it is. West Ottawa won the kick playoff.
