Emory Longs to Beat Clemson for Playoffs
Emory and Clemson will be meeting each other on the pitch Saturday morning after a brief hiatus. Both teams are facing a numbers issue due to injuries and will be playing 13s for their bout.
Although Emory has limited numbers, they’re known to be fit scrappers. After their 84-0 win over GSU and a loss against Georgia Tech, Emory is looking for a win to make it to playoffs.
“We can’t rely on substitutes. It’s all on us to perform on the field,” Emory president Melissa Querrey said. “However, our team is in really good shape because we have less numbers.”
While Emory has two games under its belt, Clemson only has one against Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern hasn’t won a game yet this season.
“The first half determines moral,” Querrey said. “It fuels the oomph into the second half.”
If Clemson can exploit Emory from the kickoff, their lack of experience this season may not matter. Although Emory’s defense has improved significantly throughout the past few seasons, the lack of urgency has remained a constant. This aspect of their gameplay will be trouble against Clemson’s aggressive forwards.
“We’ve been working on our sense of urgency. We’ve been doing quick drills in practice on have been focusing on getting up right away after being hit. We have the talent and the skill. Now, it’s all mental preparations,” Querrey said.
Georgia Tech was able to interrupt Emory’s flow long enough to rack up enough points to win. However, Emory learned from their lackadaisical mistakes, guaranteeing an even more challenging match for Clemson.
