DIAA Playoffs - Where we Stand
DIAA Playoffs - Where we Stand
Time for another look at who is where and what’s what with the Men’s DIAA College Playoffs. (This story has been updated following April 1st's Arkansas v Oklahoma State game.)
East Bracket, Pittsburgh, Pa. April 25-26
Ivy League v Keystone Conference
As reported before, West Virginia is the Keystone champion. The Ivy League champion is Dartmouth, and Dartmouth will be in the Varsity Cup, so this coming weekend Yale, Cornel, Brown, and Princeton play off for the seed from the Ivy League.
Empire v South Independent
The US Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) will represent the Empire Conference in the playoffs and the team has been trying to play in tournaments around the Northeast. It’s not been easy because the weather has been awful. Still, they played in the Four Leafs tournament (one team forfeited), and the Cherry Blossom (most of Day Two frozen out), and look at one more tournament before suiting up for the knockout round.
The champion of the SIRC will be decided this coming weekend, with South Division winners Central Florida playing Kennesaw State, and North winners Middle Tennessee State playing Florida State.
West Bracket, Davis, Calif. April 25-26
Pacific West v NCRC
One more week of league play remains in the Pacific West, and it comes down to Sacramento State playing Chico State and Nevada-Reno playing Stanford. If either Sac State or UNR wins, then that winner will make the final four. If UNR and Sac State both win, both make the playoffs and Stanford will be eliminated.
Chico State and Davis are in and are the top seeds for the Pac West playoffs.
The NCRC playoffs start this weekend, with Washington State at Washington and Oregon at Western Washington.
Gold Coast v Heart of America
The Gold Coast decides its champion Sunday, with Saturday being the semis - Long Beach State v Cal State Fullerton, and University of San Diego against Santa Barbara City College. Long Beach is the favorite at the moment.
In the Heart of America, Arkansas State needs to win out - Oklahoma State April 1, Truman State April 4, and Iowa State April 11 - and get at least one two points to be sure of winning the conference. If they slip up, Missouri can still get there. Kansas State can mathematically still win, also.
(Update - Arkansas State won 73-7 over Oklahoma State to move to 3-0-1 ... here are the HOA standings:
Heart of America (DIAA) | W | L | T | Pf | Pa | Pd | BT | BL | Pts | Games Left |
Kansas State | 4 | 1 | 0 | 223 | 73 | 150 | 5 | 0 | 21 | 1 |
Missouri | 3 | 1 | 1 | 180 | 98 | 82 | 5 | 1 | 20 | 1 |
Arkansas | 3 | 0 | 1 | 186 | 68 | 118 | 3 | 0 | 17 | 2 |
Iowa State | 2 | 2 | 0 | 113 | 83 | 30 | 2 | 0 | 10 | 3 |

Oklahoma State | 0 | 3 | 0 | 29 | 165 | -136 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 3 |
One more bonus point win should do it for the Razorbacks.
So 26 teams are still in the hunt with two weeks of competition to go.
