The Bayous Hurricanes continued their winning ways in the Deep South HS league, defeating a tough New Orleans Barbarians team 39-0 in Gretna, La. Saturday.

The weather was sunnier but the field was extremely wet as flash floods the day before had soaked the ground. But the Hurricanes can handle those conditions, and powered through with props Neil Fontenot and Josh Boudreaux scoring the first two tries for a 10-0 halftime lead. The second half would open with the Hurricanes playing down a flanker thanks to a yellow card for a high tackle.

But that didn't seem to hold Bayous back any. Fullback Brandon Sanders scored twice and wing Shane Wright, scrumhalf Alvin Delaune, and outside center Zavier Triplett all notched one try, while Flyhalf Kole Larousse converted two to make it 39-0.

The man of the match for the Hurricanes was Brandon Sanders. The Hurricanes remain undefeated at 8-0 and have one more league match, against West Jeff on April 9, before the playoffs.

The Barbarians drop to 5-2 and are in a battle with Jesuit-New Orleans for 2nd. Jesuit traveled to the campus of the University of South Alabama to take on Niceville out of Florida. Jesuit ran out to a 45-0 halftime lead and cruised 66-0. That result, alongside a forfeit win from Friday, means Jesuit is now 2nd, and the Barbarians 3rd. St. Paul's, which has three games to play in the space of eight days, could still make a run to finish higher than 4th.
