Dallas Jesuit kicked off their season with a nicely-taken 68-21 win over Jesuit New Orleans in the Texas-Louisiana Varsity Cup.

Coming off a loss to Brother Martin in the Bayou State, Jesuit New Orleans did find the tryline and fixed some things in their attack. However, the Rangers from Dallas looked very good, especially in their front row, paced by newcomer Rory Sullivan.

He ran well and scored multiple tries and with that the Rangers were able to find room for their backs to run.

Center Simon McGoldrick fullback Alec Ramon took advantage and the tries started to come.

"The first game is always a litmus test and this group knew we were using this opportunity to see where we had grown since last season as well as where we still need some growth if we want to end the season where we hope to be," said Head Coach Matt Upton. "We were able to get some guys their first varsity cap and move positions around to start to piece together the 40-50 players it is going to take to make it through this season."

This will be a challenging season for Dallas, with rivals Strake Jesuit and a St. Thomas of Houston expected to be a challenger.

"We have added HEB to our league this season so we are excited for the competition there," said Upton. "They are known for their size and tenacity with the ball as well as the ability to play together as this club has grown up together."

They are adding some games out-of-state as well and Upton said playing some Northeast opposition will be a chance to learn and grow. That was this weekend also.

"We came away with some clear goals and things we need to work on. NOLA had some younger-than-usual talent," said the coach. "All-in-all the first run out did what it was supposed to ... exposed to the staff and boys some places of growth, as well as affirmed the work they have done since our last game in 2025."
