While we have the week off in the California Southwest league, the rest of CRAA's D1AA leagues are in heated action.

Florida State is coming off a very well taken win over South Florida and with that the Seminoles are now 3-0.

What has been woking well for FSU is they have multiple teams and Head Coach Michael Gomez works hard to find games for everyone. The worst thing for a rugby player is to be on the sidelines.

While the FSU B-side lost 50-46 to the Sarasota men's club in which they fronted up quite nicely, the A-side was winning 63-12 over a very good South Florida side.

"Just one of those fortunate moments," said Gomez. "We operated at near potential, but we still had mistakes and we didn't capitalize on all of our trips inside the 22. USF was missing a few starters."

That's where Florida State's activities come in. Gomez has developed depth. He will move the lineup around against Florida Atlantic and in fact in the three conference matches he has used 21 different starters. This past weekend scrumhalf Tommy McMorrow was outstanding, but players can all step in and perform.

Meanwhile, USF is looking to rebound against another unbeaten team in Millennia Atlantic. The Macaws have won big over UCF and FAU, but this will be a different challenge.

In California Conference NorCal, the big game is likely ARC against Fresno State. At 2-2 the Bulldogs are a tough out, but ARC is 5-0 and putting up big scores. They and San Jose State are on a collision course.

The NCRC is down to who can haul in Western Washington. This week it's the rebuilding Central Washington (newly a club this season and doing well while they figure it all out) against WWU.

The Vikings are playing some strong defense, having allowed only 24 points in five conference games and logged three shutouts. Central does have 14 of those points, but they haven't corralled the Western Washington attack.

For Western, they have been playing some serious out-of-conference opponents, such as Grand Canyon and Trinity Western. Now they look at three more conference games to potentially wrap up an unbeaten run and then play a playoff game vs a NorCal opponent.

That 15s championship has been elusive, but this might be the year.
