Charlotte Catholic Names New Head Coach
Charlotte Catholic High School has announced the appointment of Nick Whitrow as the new head coach for its varsity rugby program.
A USA rugby level 300 coach, Whitrow has coached for several years including working with the High School All American Boys team from 2010-2012. He also worked as an assistant coach of the men’s program at Clemson, primarily as a skills coach and with the backline attack. In his time as assistant coach, the Clemson men’s team won two titles in the old ACRL titles, and competed in two Varsity cups, reaching the quarterfinals in 2015, as well as one CRC tournament.
Since then Whitrow created an academy for the elite youth rugby players in the state of South Carolina, taking a team to the high school bracket of the CRC where the team went 2-3 overall, finishing 9th. For the past two years Whitrow has helped to reestablish the Clemson women’s program -- returning them to Division 1 Rugby and competing in two CRCs.
He provided academic support to the Athletics Department at Clemson. Coach Whitrow is currently a Ph.D Student in Educational Leadership, an adjunct instructor in athletic leadership and an assistant coach at Queens University of Charlotte.
"I am extremely excited and honored to be heading up a program with such strong foundations and traditions," said Whitrow. "The work of prior coaches has given us a great launching pad for this upcoming year. My goal is to bring an organized and energetic game plan to give these student athletes the best experience possible.”
