Charlotte Catholic took a tense 26-24 win over Huskies in the North Carolin  School League final Saturday.

Huskies expected to challenge Charlotte Catholic and they did. Against a very talented side Huskies showed they belong.

"We have a young team and we'll be back," said Huskies Head Coach Bruce Colson. "It was a great final and a great experience, and certainly fun to watch. I think this was a good level of rugby from both teams and the officials ran the game well. So proud of the fact that we were in it until the very end, and you can't ask for more than what everyone gave."

Flyhalf Luke Zehmke was huge for Charlotte Catholic as he was somewhat under the weather but sucked it up and put in a huge performance.

"He is playing some special rugby right now," said his father and coach, Jason Zehmke, who is usually very reluctant to pump up his son. Sometimes it's unavoidable.  Zehmke the younger's three penalty goals were hugely important in the 26-24 win.

But the way was paved by the forwards. Lock Lukas Lupinski, prop Shep Schrift, and flanker Justin Sparks put in a ton of work and made things happen all day. And they needed to with Huskies No. 8 and captain Kai Campbell putting in a top-flight performance of his own.

"There really was much difference between the teams," said Zehmke.
