Boston University wrapped up a regular-season undefeated run this past weekend with a 34-10 defeat of Norwich to put the Terriers at 6-0.

They needed to run the table because Vermont, 45-19 winners over Coast Guard, were right behind them at 5-1.

Those top two teams will meet next week in the conference championship game. Almost certainly the #2 NACR team will get a NCR playoff berth, too.

"We have been tested a lot this year in different ways that give us confidence for the playoffs," said BU Head Coach Ben Glauser. "Against Coast Guard we started very slow and dug ourselves a big hole, so we had to score points against a tough defense in order to win. Vermont tested our speed of play; that was a battle for who was in position first ready to play each phase. Norwich was a massive physical challenge, they battered us with their forwards and dared us to make tackle after tackle."

Second rower Spencer Locke was forward of the match and was a defensive standout, shutting down Norwich's big men in traffic. Lock Bobby Styles and flanker Eric Fischer also we crucial defensively.

In attack, captain Callum Neher kept the team calm and focused on the process,  while flanker Facundo Keller scored two tries at critical moments.

With scrumhalf Elliot Lowery and flyhalf Jean Gondard working well together,  BU was able to move the ball quickly, and because of that fullback Maximus Keller and wings Isaac Ryan and Akira Shimada-Cirnigliaro got space to move and they produced tries.

"We are starting quickly," said Glauser. "We're attacking to control the game from the opening whistle rather than feeling it out for 10 or 20 minutes. We're developing our higher-level game plans. Against Norwich we wanted to focus on playing in their half of the pitch whether or not we had the ball, and that was crucial to our success."

Still, 6-0 while allowing less than 10 points per game on average sets BU up nicely.

"We have developed our strengths and the tests we've passed so far give us lots of confidence going into playoffs," said the coach.
