Branham Awarded Loane Medal
Former High School All American and Fallbrook HS captain, and current University of Arizona freshman Steven Branham was presented with the Mark Loane Medal Thursday evening in New York.
The Mark Loane Medal is sponsored by the University of Queensland Academy in America Foundation, and is presented to the top high school rugby player in the United States. Branham, who was Goff Rugby Report's HS Player of the Year, was selected for 2015.
This is the second year that the Loane Medal has been awarded. The medal was presented at The Manhattan Club in New York City, and the evening also included a panel of speakers consisting of: Australian international Mike Harris, Dr. Mark Loane, who captained Australia and played for the Wallabies from 1970 to 1982, former Australia captain and World Cup winner Michael Lynagh, longtime USA scrumhalf Mike Petri, current USA National Team Head Coach Mike Tolkin, and former USA National Team scrumhalf Tim Usasz.
The award, which recognizes skills and leadership on and off the field, included a scholarship for Branham to travel to Australia and train at the University of Queensland in the summer of 2016.
