Boys Single-School Rankings Week #6
Boys Single-School Rankings Week #6
There's been a change in the top spot in the Goff Rugby Report HS Boys Single-School rankings.
You'd expect there to be. While Gonzaga played Gregory the Great in an open-subs scrimmage (and won), the #1 team didn't play a major team this week, and Jesuit of Sacramento did, beating top-ranked HS club team Danville. When you beat the best you get rewarded, and Jesuit moves to #1.
This move is the highest-profile of a series of moves within the rankings. With 9, 10, and 11 in action in the SoCal playoffs, it's no surprise the games have an effect. La Costa Canyon beat Torrey Pines by a point the weekend of Feb 11, and then beat St. John Bosco comfortably. Torrey Pines beat Mira Costa in overtime. It's clear LCC, TP, and MC are all very close, and if they had them play a round-robin you might have them all go 1-1, but right now they shift, with Mira Costa dropping to #12, and the other two holding steady just ahead of them. Why? Because Kahuku is back on the field, and the Red Raiders won 39-0 over a tough Kalihi team, and we have moved the Hawaiian school to #9.
Also making a move is Charlotte Catholic, after beating Georgetown Prep. Wilson HS, which lost in OT to University City in the playoffs, gets a nudge also. Christian Brothers comes in between Jesuit-New Orleans (to whom they lost), and Brother Martin (whom they beat). Los Alamitos and Bixby also move up.
