We have a new #1 but it's a tenuous one.

Herriman has, by most measurements, played a tough schedule, and it's a little rough to penalize them for a win vs the #3 club team. But they weren't at their best in that match, and could easily, easily have lost it. At the same time, St. Ignatius has been building a crazy-tough schedule (two top French opponents, three teams going to nationals, and pretty much every other opponent ranked). Their dismissal of a hard-hitting Moeller side was a very strong performance.

So we made the change. And in part we made it because Herriman is in the Montana Invitational, with an excellent chance of facing Jesuit of Sacramento, while Ignatius plays Xavier of NY. That pair of games opens us up to switch it up again.

In addition, one more thing we want to talk about it the group of idle teams in the Top 15. We are moving them down. At some point, the current body of work has to push aside the past, and with the recent games, and the upcoming Montana Invitational, the Gonzaga Classic, Xavier vs Ignatius, and a couple of other games, those teams drift down.

In addition, Gregory the Great's ranking has been based basically on one result, an early-season 33-26 win over Gonzaga. At some points (as we often tell you) we can be forced to throw out a close result from the past. GGA is a very good team, but their schedule has included two highly-ranked teams (Gonzaga and Doylestown, who beat them by 22) and their other Pennsylvania opponents. Compared to Gonzaga, who have clearly improved over time and have a close loss to Ignatius (we'd love to see GGA vs Ignatius by the way), gone on tour, and played only ranked teams, GGA's schedule is not as challenging.

Now we're not saying Greg's should travel more. Do what you want, but be aware that eventually the rankings have to take into account strength of schedule. The same applies to Kingfisher's.
