It remains a mixed up and somewhat confused school-support team rankings, as some teams are just starting, some are stuck playing in leagues without playing out-of-state, making it very difficult to just where they stand against everyone else.
As it is, the Top 10 has some changes. St. Ignatius is the latest example of a team that changes how we view their earlier results by looking at recent results. The past weekend's Midwest tournament gave Ignatius an opportunity to beat Royal Irish, a team they'd lost to previously. Now, these shortened games aren't the same as a full 70-minute (for U19 players) game, but it still showed that Ignatius has taken some steps forward. That 14-12 loss probably won't hurt Royal Irish any in their rankings, but it was enough to bump Ignatius, who have a much tougher schedule than the teams in Texas or Louisiana, past those teams in Texas and Louisiana.
Gregory the Great and St. Joseph's move up this week, and St. Xavier of Cincinnati does also because they beat two ranked teams (in shortened games but there you are) at the Midwest tournament. It was a really good showing for St. X.
Also moving up dramatically are those in the SCIRF now that the season has started, with Fallbrook also joining the Top 50. What to do about Brownsburg? A team that lost both games at Midwests, but lost them in very competitive fashion. Their overall results, against the same opposition, were pretty identical to Penn, so they are ranked very close. Penn has a few more games under its belt.
What to do about Xavier? The New York team lost to Aspetuck, no big shame there, and then got shut out by Fort Hunt. So they are 0-2, with an aggregate score of 17-74. But they have a history, we watched them play and know they can play. We decided to drop Xavier down to #25 and wait to see what happens.
And joining the Top 50 along with Fallbrook are St. Thomas (overall good results in Texas), Gonzaga (season starting very soon), and Greenwich (season started and they won).
