BC High Wins in MIAA Opener

BC High vs Weymouth.

The Massachusetts IAA league kicked off this weekend with a clash between the two divisional winners in 2024.

BC High, which won D1 last season, took on Weymouth, which won D2. Weymouth has moved up to D2 but always knew that would be a challenge.

BC High took this game 57-14.

"Again, our defense stood solid, really not allowing Weymouth to get going at all," said BC High Head Coach Paul Carty, whose team won the Fairfield NE Jesuit tournament last week thanks to their strong D. Eagles scrumhalf Braxton Blind controlled the attack smartly, repeatedly finding players with a gap, and when the space was near him, he was able to exploit that, as well.

Forwards Wyatt Averett and Mike White controlled the breakdown, while backs Charlie Thomison, and Owen Hurley finished their chances.

Carty said the scoreline flattered his team. However, crucially he was able to get some valuable time for players who will be playing in the Gonzaga Tournament next week—the Eagles will have six starters unavailable for that event.

"We are excited to test ourselves against quality competition and put younger players in a position to grow," added Carty.

Also this week, 2024 D1 runners-up Xaverian Brothers took on Belmont HS. This was a very physical battle and going into the closing moments, Xaverian led 17-10.

However, Belmont was able to score and get the conversion to tie the game 17-17, and that's how it ended.
